Ailok Laran protection wall project abandoned for almost 3 years

DILI – The protection wall project located in Ailok-Laran abandoned for almost three (3) years since 2024 until today has not been finalized.

According to official information that The Oe-Kusi Post (TOP) accessed from the post of two Deputy Commissioners of the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC), Rosário Salsinha Araújo and Miguel Acácio Faria, together with the Inspection and Monitoring Unit (UIM) Team, recently conducted a monitoring project in Timor-Leste. Rui Naclecar Village, Bairo-Pite District, Dom Aleixo Administrative Post.

In the field observation, the team identified that the protection wall project located in Ailok-Laran has been abandoned since 2024 until today.

In addition, the condition of the warehouse used to store the company's materials and equipment was also totally damaged.

During the visit, the team also identified a total of 8 projects in the area, 2 abandoned projects, 4 100% completed projects, 2 on going projects.

Deputy Commissioner Miguel Acácio Faria, said that the objective of this monitoring is to find out information that is accurate, credible, and based on facts on the ground.

CAC wants to know why the project stopped and what is the main issue," said Deputy Commissioner Miguel Acácio.

CAC through the monitoring team has asked the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to present the contract document of the project. This is very important for the CAC to be able to conduct a thorough analysis of the company's time frame, budget, and responsibilities, as well as for the community to have access to transparent information.

Deputy Commissioner Rosário Salsinha Araújo said that CAC will not remain silent when it sees projects that use state money but are abandoned.

CAC's presence to detect compliance according to BOQ, design and contracts so as not to harm the state when the implementation creates the risk of corruption that the relevant entity will assume responsibility said Rosário.

At the same time, the companies have also promised CAC that they will finalize these services on May 5 this year.

Also participating in this monitoring, the Head of Bairo-Pite, the Head of Village and local authorities to accompany the CAC team to see closely the conditions in the field.
